All Charlevoix Marathon events start and end in beautiful downtown Charlevoix, Michigan.  Charlevoix is perched on an isthmus between Lake Michigan and Round Lake and is a northern Michigan community known as "Charlevoix the Beautiful" spreading out onto the shores of Lake Charlevoix.  Nothing beats Charlevoix in terms of natural beauty.  Plus, Charlevoix has the look and feel of an 18th Century resort community.

The staging area for Charlevoix is the beautiful downtown area of Charlevoix on Bridge Street, one--half block east of the drawbridge.   All courses will take you through fantastic residential tree lined neighborhoods. The course is primarily flat, fast shaded most of the way, with a few inclines.  The Marathon course has a few inclines and a hill at about the 7 mile marker. You can expect a very scenic race with some of the most breathtaking views available on any course.  The Marathon and Half Marathon participants will run onto the bike trail.

The Marathon is a Boston qualifying race.  All races are certified and insured by USATF.

While in town, enjoy the Annual Summer Solstice Art Show sponsored by the Charlevoix Chamber of Commerce.  For more information on the art show visit the Chamber website at www.charlevoix.org or call 231-547-2101.

The Charlevoix City Police, Charlevoix Sheriff's Department, Charlevoix Chamber and Emmett County Sherrif's Departments are very helpful, supportive and want you to enjoy a safe and enjoyable race.

Headsets

USATF has a new rule which addresses headphones during races that they sanction. They leave it up to the race officials to make the decision whether the course is safe enough to use listening devices. So, the official answer to this question is "Yes" you may use the following while on the bike trail only. Radio/tape, I-Pod, MP3 player, or similar headsets.

No headsets of any type are permitted on the 5K, 10K or Half Marathon portion of the course.

You do so at your own risk. Please be courteous to others.

Aid Stations

There will be nine aid stations on the course; approximately every 1 ½ miles. Each station will have water, candy, flat cola, GU and Gatorade for your nutrition needs on the course.  Several aid stations will have ice, water misters and first aid supplies (vaseline, band aids, and Ibprophen.

Again this year, we are holding a contest for the best aid station. Make sure you let us know which aid station did the best job.

Again for 2011. The residence of Charlevoix will be providing water sprinklers along the course. Plus there will be an official ice station at the corner of Waller and Old Orchard. Please give the home owners and the Ice Lady, Louise a big "thank you" as you go by.  We will have bags of ice if you need one.
